Money-Saving Tips for Swimming Pool Owners
Swimming Pool Owners – Tips For Saving Money
We know being a pool owner can get expensive. We also know that it’s well worth the enjoyment you get out of it. Still, there are ways you can keep a bit more money in your wallet. Save cash on these money-saving tips when it comes to pool maintenance:
- Store your vacuum properly: Store it brush-side-up in a cool place outside of direct sun. When you leave it brush-side-down, you can damage the bristles. Store it right to double its life, as vacuum head replacement gets costly.
- Use that solar cover: Use a solar cover along with your pool heater to help retain the desired temperature. Once you’ve run the heater, apply the solar cover to keep all that heat in overnight. You may even want to consider using a liquid solar blanket at a cheaper cost, which can also be easier to use.
- Clean off the cover: Keep your pool cover clean and free from debris throughout winter by removing accumulating water from the cover. You can do this using your pool pump. Use a broom when the cover is dry to brush off the leaves and twigs.
- Use the pump at off-peak hours: When choosing to run the pump at night, you save on electricity. That’s because the electricity company charges the most during peak times of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Shock every single week: Do this without question. If you suddenly decide to skip a week because all looks good, you could wake up to a green, murky pool. Then you have to spend even more money to triple shock it just to return it to previous levels.
- Apply baking soda rather than alkalinity increaser. If your pool is too alkaline, use some baking soda to save money instead of alkalinity increaser from the pool store. Go easy, though, because it could turn your water cloudy if you use too much.
- Attempt a DIY closing: Why not try closing your above ground pool yourself this fall? Hiring a professional can cost upwards of $250; however, you could end up spending a lot more than that to fix a mistake you overlooked during the process. Do your research so you don’t shell out lots of money later to have a professional come to your home anyway. Adding chemicals…removing drain plugs…putting the cover on. There are lots of things to consider. Do it right yourself and you could save yourself some green.
